Letfs thwart Abe Cabinetfs scheme of constitutional revision!

@A9A secretariat sponsors study meeting

A9A sponsored a study meeting on October 7th entitled the gNew Cabinet and Constitutionh in Tokyo with about 180 people attending. The study meeting was intended to inform members of the aims of the Abe Cabinet, which has an agenda of constitutional revision.

@@ At the meeting a college professor lectured on gQuestions on the Governmentfs awareness of history and moves to adversely revise the Fundamental Law of Education.h He explained the background of the cabinetfs aberrant awareness of history and characteristics which lack of fundamental awareness causes. Then, a scholar spoke about gMoves toward constitutional revision and the right of collective self-defense.h He stressed that the right of collective self-defense does not belong to natural rights, and its exercise not allowed under Article 9 of the Constitution. Many municipality heads join A9A inaugural meetings

@@ More and more local government heads have participated or sent their messages of support to inaugural or one-year anniversary meetings of local A9A groups. Among them are:

Umida Town and Hatsukaichi City in Hiroshima Prefecture, Yamamoto town in Miyagi Prefecture in northern Japan, and Shiwacho in Iwate Prefecture, also in northern Japan.

@@ A9A groups in Nara, one of the ancient capitals of Japan, sponsored its second exchange meeting on October 10th. A representative of A9A addressed the meeting. At the meeting, a variety of activities such as signature collection campaigns and study meetings were presented.@

@@ In Aomori city in northern Japan, womenfs A9A groups on September 27th took to the streets to propagate their activities and to collect signatures.

@@ In Aichi prefecture in central Japan, womenfs A9A groups sponsored a series of lectures on September 24th. It was attended by 350 people. Three representatives (a writer, a lawyer and an actress) addressed the meeting, and a music critic, the main guest speaker, gave a lecture on gLetfs spread Article 9 as our greatest wish.fh@@@@

Four Diet members, students debate Article 9 at high school festival

 

@@ A private high school in Nagoya sponsored a panel discussion titled gDebate on Article 9 between Diet members and studentsh on September 30th. It was attended by a member from the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), two from the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ), one from the Japanese Communist Party (JCP), and four students. To begin with, the high school moderator announced that a vast majority of teachers and students have expressed strong opinions @against an Article 9 revision, citing results of a poll gFor or against the article revision.h He asked the panelists, gAre you for or against the revision?h One DPJ member, the JCP member and three students said that they would take the position of being gagainst,h while the LDP member and another DPJ member and one student were gfor.h One of the four student panelists said, gThe Constitution was created from the suffering of Japanese and Asian war victims. If it should be revised, all of Asians will become indignant.h
